Almedahls Award 2010

Susie Foster from the Royal College of Art in London is this year’s winner of the Almedahls´ Award. Our focus this year was the child and we were looking for thoughts and ideas about textiles and patterns created
from a child’s point of view for public places, user-friendly with playful values.

Susie Foster’s contribution ”Shape happy” is created from her own play with paper, pencils and colours. This is a playful collage that creates curiosity, “Toy poetry!”. Shapes that make you smile and associate with the playful paper flea, which children in generations have played with. At the same time it is a pattern that pays tribute to the nuanced traditional square, but in a creative way. This expressive pattern invites you to create products for playful public settings where children and grown-ups always coexist. The creation of a common and inviting public place does not seem far away with this winning contribution: “Shape happy!”.

The jury this year comprised Stefan Borselius, Furniture Designer, Carl Zedig,CEO Playsam, and Johanna Lundgren, Ann Larsson Kjelin and Lisa Vilhelmson from Almedahls´ Design Studio at Almedahls AB.
