Burn out

Burn-out is a semi-transparent patterned fabric. The burn-out technique is based on certain fibres being burnt away.The fascinating transparency of burn-out fabrics means that they are always of interest for fashionable home furnishing. In the right place and used appropriately, burn-out fabrics can create a special living space. It creates particularly beautiful light in rooms and at windows. The transparency, the soft fall of the fabric and the huge variety of textures and colours allow interior architects to create a personal design right down to the smallest detail.

Producing a burn-out item requires a mixed-fibre fabric with a suitable fibre combination. It must be possible to dissolve one fibre chemically, while the chemicals added to the printing ink must not damage the other. The chemical used depends on the type of fibre.

The following fibres are not resistant to chemicals:
Cotton, linen, silk, viscose, and wool.
Most suitable are cotton, linen and viscose.

The following fibres are resistant to chemicals:
Polyacrylic, Polyaide and polyester.
Most suitable: Polyester and Polyacrylic.

Care
Since burn-out items now almost always consist of synthetic material, they are simple to care for: Wash as delicate fabrics, 30 °C, high water level and a mild detergent (use a mesh wash bag to prevent the material losing its shape) and use a cool iron if necessary.
