Maria Löw was trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in Stockholm and HDK in Göteborg. Maria is a well-known name in the trade as an industrial designer as well as an interior decorator and has many best-sellers in her portfolio. She has several times been awarded “Excellent Swedish Form” for carpets and for fabrics. For Almedahls she has designed for example “Blomstra”, “Lace”, “Bric” and the carpet “3D”. She is also represented with textiles and unique carpets at Swedish Embassies and at the EU office in Brussels.
”The inspiration to my curtain design ”Bric” came from Petite Point embroideries, reminding of the computer’s pixels, two opposites characterizing our age. The fast high technology versus the slow handicraft. To make a carpet with hand-tuft technique for Almedahls I have experimented with cutting techniques to get a three-dimensional surface. I have also wanted to get a carpet with light and shadow effects, quite contrary to the yarn, which does not reflect light. To get this “trompe-l’œil” effect I have used a mixed composition of yarns in close shades”.
